DURHAM -- The game itself isn't until Saturday night at 7 p.m., but the pre-game festivities get underway this evening.

The Bull City Football Fest -- celebrating the first meeting of Duke University and North Carolina Central University on the gridiron -- kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at ... well, a baseball field.

Newly re-furbished Durham Athletic Park, 428 Morris St., will host pep rallies for both schools, music performances, local food vendors, activities for kids and more to mark the occasion of the football first.

The fest is free and open to all residents, including students and staff from both universities.

Here's a quick look at the schedule tonight:

- 5:30 p.m. -- DJs from WXDU and WKNC, the two campus stations, play music.

- 6:30 p.m. -- Pep rallies feature head coaches, team captions, marching bands and cheerleaders from both schools.

- 7:20 p.m.. -- Proclamation by Durham Mayor Bill Bell.

- 7:30 p.m. -- Performances by students groups from both Duke and NCCU.

- 9:10 p.m. -- Concert by the Sammies.

- 10 p.m. -- Concert by The Dickens.
