DURHAM -- Bicycle safety tips will be wheeled out at E.K. Powe Elementary School at 913 Ninth St. from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday as the Durham police hold a family safety fair and bicycle rodeo.
Children can learn bike safety, injury prevention and practice pedaling through obstacle courses.
Participants should bring bikes and helmets. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
"Our number one goal, of course, is to prevent injuries and deaths relating to bicycle accidents,'' Officer Tammy Schultz said.
"For their safety and that of the public, it's very important for kids to understand bicycle maintenance, traffic rules and signs and hazardous road conditions."
Two new bikes will be raffled off.
For more information, contact Schultz at (919) 560-4404, ext. 29417.
