Champs! Bulls beat Yanks in 12 innings
From staff reports
The Durham Bulls are champions.
The Bulls, one year after falling hard to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Governors’ Cup Finals, completed a three-game sweep of the teams’ International League championship series with a 3-2 road victory over the Yankees.
Bulls catcher John Jaso brought home what proved to be the winning run with a one-out double in the 12th inning to score Elliot Johnson from first base.
The Bulls were appearing in the finals for the third consecutive year but won it all for the first time since back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003.
A year ago, Scranton topped Durham in the finals, winning the clincher 20-2 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
