PITTSBORO -- The Chatham Sheriff's Office, fire officials and the State Bureau of Investigations are investigating the death of a 32-year-old Pittsboro man, who was found dead inside a mobile home that had been on fire.
The victim, Catalan Uriostegui of 638 Mitchell's Chapel Road, was apparently the victim of a homicide, and officials believe the fire at the mobile home had been set to destroy evidence of the crime.
A passing motorist called about the fire after seeing the mobile home on fire about 4 p.m. on Tuesday. When fire fighters arrived, the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire had been extinguished, they found the body of a Hispanic man inside, according to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.
The SBI, which has trained specialists in arson, was called in to assist in the investigation.
Chatham officials are not releasing the cause of death. No arrests had been made.
