DURHAM -- Tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. for Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," which comes to the Durham Performing Arts Center Nov. 26-Dec. 20.
Directed by Harold Prince, and presented by the Cameron Mackintosh/Really Useful Theatre Company Inc., "The Phantom of the Opera" is considered the most successful entertainment venture of the 20th century, surpassing such blockbuster films as "Titanic," "Lord of the Rings," and "Star Wars." The winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the musical has been seen by more than 80 million people in 124 cities in 25 countries.

Sun Ra jam session on Saturday at PSI
DURHAM -- The Durham Art Guild continues its community programming associated with the current exhibition "Pathways to Unknown Worlds: Sun Ra, El Saturn and Chicago's Afro-Futurist Underground 1954-68" by presenting "Sun Ra - A Jam Session" Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This jam session will be held in the PSI Theater in the Durham Arts Council Building, 120 Morris St. This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. The event will be a combination of film, music, dance and spoken word inspired by the legendary composer and bandleader, Sun Ra.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the documentary, "Sun Ra - A Joyful Noise" will be presented in the theater, followed by performances by musicians Freeman Ledbetter, Stanley Baird, John Brown, Carl Kenney, the band Savage Knights, Sun Ra-inspired poet Val Jones and the Bellan Dance Troupe.
