Duke coach David Cutcliffe had vowed to play Renfree for a series or two, but once Renfree got in, he didn’t come out. Renfree completed 7 of 8 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns — all over the game’s final 23 minutes.

After several promising Duke drives fizzled, the Blue Devils finally took the lead when Renfree’s first college pass resulted in a 17-yard score to tight end Brett Huffman.

Duke’s defense forced no turnovers and had one tackle for loss in a season-opening loss to Richmond, but the Blue Devils forced four turnovers and had six tackles for loss against Army.

The Blue Devils avoided what would have been a truly disastrous 0-2 start heading into their toughest test of the young season, a trip to No. 24 Kansas on Saturday.
