DURHAM -- Duke football coach David Cutcliffe took the time this week to write a note to legendary Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, congratulating him on his induction into the Army Sports Hall of Fame today.
"West Point is the premiere leadership institution in the United States," Cutcliffe said. "He should be in their Hall of Fame because he takes their ideals to the maximum. He's just a brilliant man and a tremendous leader."
Krzyzewski, a 1969 graduate who played point guard for Coach Bobby Knight, was the Black Knights' head coach for five seasons before leaving for Duke in 1981.
Krzyzewski will be in West Point for festivities today and will be honored at halftime of Saturday's Duke-Army game at Michie Stadium (noon, CBS College Sports).
Cutcliffe said jokingly that he was afraid to ask Krzyzewski who he'd be rooting for.
"I think he'll be pleased if Army plays well," Cutcliffe said, "but he'll be pulling for Duke."
