Utility, mortgage rent assistance

DURHAM -- The Council for Senior Citizens can provide assistance to older adults with overdue utility, rent or mortgage.

To qualify you must be at least 60 years old, reside in Durham County and have a turn off notice from your utility company or an eviction notice from your landlord.

Confirmation of need will be determined and identification is required. For confidential assistance, please call Juanita Nelson at (919) 688-8247, ext. 105.

Precinct 17 meets tonight

DURHAM -- The Durham County Democratic Party is hosting a Precinct 17 general meeting at 6 tonight at the Triangle Brewing Company, 918 Pearl St.

The public is invited.

Today is the last day to register before No Excuse, One Stop Voting begins.

TROSA yard sale scheduled

DURHAM -- The nonprofit Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers (TROSA) will host a benefit yard sale today and Saturday from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. daily, rain or shine, at 1820 James St.

Items for sale will include pianos, furniture, TVs, stereos, kitchenware, video games, file cabinets, tables, chairs, desks, dressers, king sheets and comforters; men's, women's and children's clothing -- some new; new and used vanity combos, storm doors, medicine cabinets, hot water heaters (propane and electric), miscellaneous plumbing, spray foam insulation, poly floor finish, pipe insulation, sanding materials, large quantity trowels, respirators, shade cloth and more.

All proceeds from the sale of these items go directly to cover the cost of TROSA's programs.

Community Day at Walltown

DURHAM -- The Walltown Neighborhood Center will host a Community Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Walltown Park Ball Field, 1300 W. Club Blvd.

Residents of all ages are invited to participate in a day of food, fun games, and more. Entertainment will be provided by the Durham Raiders Football Cheerleaders, Mt. Olive Dancers, Rose Dance Group, Eclipse Productions and step teams.

Due to construction,, participants are asked to enter the park from the Guess Road/Northgate Mall side of the park.
