Blues Festival returns to DAP

It's one of the signs of the season.

The students are back, the summer heat has broken a bit and it's time once again for the Bull Durham Blues Festival.

The Blues Festival is one of Durham's annual signature events that residents eagerly anticipate and visitors come from miles around to experience. This Friday and Saturday marks the 22nd year for the Blues Festival. And there are a couple of changes this year, making it a little different from past years.

Most will be happy to hear that the festival has moved back to the historic Durham Athletic Park. Last year the event was held at the new Durham Bulls Athletic Park while the old ballpark was undergoing renovations.

That was fine for a year, but most concert-goers said they preferred the Blues Fest at its traditional home -- the old DAP. This year, visitors can appreciate the improvements at the DAP.

Another change is that the festival will be two days only -- Friday and Saturday. Friday night will be the traditional opening at the Hayti Heritage Center. This year, that concert features the Jon Shain Trio, Jasm
