HILLSBOROUGH -- Hillsborough United Methodist Church will hold its annual fundraiser Saturday at The Big Barn in the Daniel Boone Village, 388 Ja-Max Drive.
The proceeds raised are used for mission projects and for the church's campus expansion. A craft sale and silent auction will be held from noon to 6 p.m., with a live auction at 4 p.m., and barbecue and Brunswick stew dinner at 5 p.m. The dinners are $8, eat in or take out. Anniversary, revival at NE Baptist Church
DURHAM -- North East Baptist Church, 3204 Highway 55, will celebrate the 18th anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. Wesley Elam, this weekend.
The theme is "His Amazing Grace -- Ephesians 2:8-10." A pig picking and showing of "Evan Almighty" will be held on the church lawn at 6 p.m. Saturday.
At the 7:45 a.m. worship service Sunday, the guest preacher will be the Rev. William Henderson of Morning Star Baptist. At the 10:45 a.m. service, the Rev. Joseph Perkins, founder and president of Apex School of Theology, will preach.
North East Baptist will also hold its annual Youth Revival at 6:30 p.m. nightly Wednesday through Sept. 18. The theme is "Live 4 Christ." Speakers include the Rev. Ryan Brooks of St. James Baptist and the Rev. Michael Evans Jr. of North East Baptist. 'Care to Care-aoke?' at Calvary UMC
DURHAM -- Calvary United Methodist Church, 304 E. Trinity Ave., will hold a benefit for hungry people called "Care to Care-aoke?" from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Baptist alliance head to visit Yates Baptist
DURHAM -- The Rev. Neville Callam, general secretary of the Baptist World Alliance, will preach at Yates Baptist Church, 2819 Chapel Hill Road, at the 11 a.m. service.
He will also attend a lunch and conversation at noon in the fellowship hall. The lunch is $8.
Callam is from Jamaica and has served as Baptist World Alliance vice president and as an officer for the Jamaica Baptist Union and Caribbean Baptist Fellowship. He is also the founder of a religious radio station and media company. Ordained in 1977, Callam is also a teacher and writer.

Psalm songs, outdoor concert at Trinity
DURHAM -- Charles Pettee of Folk Psalm will share and perform the scriptures put to song at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 215 N. Church Street.
Pettee is a North Carolinian who has played with the Shady Grove Band and Folk Psalm.
At 5 p.m. Sunday, a free end of summer concert will be performed outside at the church by New Destiny, contemporary artists from Asheboro. The event will take place rain or shine. St. Titus begins testimony series
DURHAM -- St. Titus Episcopal Church, 400 Moline St., will begin a guest speaker series called "Blessed to be a Blessing -- Opportunity to Witness" at its 10 a.m. Sunday.
The Rev. Mark Bozzuti-Jones, priest for pastoral care at nurture at Trinity Church on Wall Street will speak Sunday about his ministry to the poor, weak, sick and lonely in New York City. He will also preach at the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services. The Christian education hour is held from 10 to 11 a.m.
On Sept. 20, Mary McGuigan of Durham's Genesis Home will speak along with staff of the homeless ministry. Future speakers include the Rev. Patrice Nelson, Presbyterian minister and new director of Urban Ministries of Durham on Sept. 27; Sonja Bennett of St. Augustine's College on Oct. 4; and on Oct. 11, the Rev. Daniel P. Matthews will speak about his work as a priest in the wake of Sept. 11 in New York City.

New Jerusalem installs pastor
DURHAM -- New Jerusalem Community Church at 3107 Hursey St. will celebrate the installation services of Pastor Wallis C. Baxter III at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sept. 20.
Guest speakers will be the Rev. Timothy J. Walker and the Walnut Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday; the Rev. Dr. Thomas L. Walker and Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church on Sept. 17; and the Rev. Staccato Powell and Grace AME Zion Church on Sept. 18. The Rev. Taihesia Lane of Miles Chapel Baptist Church will preach at 11 a.m. Sunday followed by a cookout at noon, and the Rev. Aaron L. Parker of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga., will preach at 4 p.m.
Baxter, a Duke Divinity School graduate and an alumnus of Morehouse College in Atlanta, will be the second pastor of New Jerusalem, handed on from church founder Pastor Emeritus Bishop Bennie Griffin Jr.
Griffin, who is retiring after 37 years in the ministry, said he is "excited about this anointed young man that was chosen as my successor. What a gift from God."

Resurrection UMC revival
DURHAM -- Resurrection United Methodist Church, 4705 Old Chapel Hill Road, will host a revival at 6:30 p.m. nightly Sunday through Tuesday.
It will be a time of worship to give people the opportunity to receive God's grace and power through singing and prayer. Guest speaker is the Rev. B. Kevin Smalls of Washington, D.C. He is the pastor of Queen's Chapel United Methodist church in Beltsville, Md., and a longtime friend of the pastor of Resurrection UMC, the Rev. Robert Wesley Simpson. Smalls and Simpson served together in various leadership roles in the United Methodist Church's Baltimore-Washington conference as teenagers. Smalls is a graduate of Claflin University and Gammon Theological Seminary. He previously served in northern Georgia and as associate council director for young adult ministries for the UMC's Baltimore-Washington conference.

Glendale Heights celebrates 50th
DURHAM -- Glendale Heights United Methodist Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary Sunday during its 11 a.m. worship service, followed by a lunch in the fellowship hall. The guest speaker is Gray Southern, United Methodist district superintendent.
The chancel choir will perform an anthem written by Tom T. Shelton Jr. in honor of the anniversary.
The church was founded on Sept. 13, 1959, when a group from the Glendale Heights community met at Northgate Park to form a new Methodist church, which became known as Glendale Heights United Methodist Church, now located at 908 Leon St. Friends, families and former members are invited to participate in the celebration.
Services at Mt. Sylvan UMC

Health sessions at Evergreen UMC
CHAPEL HILL -- Evergreen United Methodist Church, 11098 Highway 15-501 North, will host "Living Healthy" information sessions from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 21 for people with a chronic illness.
The first session is Wednesday, but registration is require by Friday. The sessions are provided in partnership with Triangle J Area Agency on Aging and the Chatham County Council on Aging. Leaders are Judith Barrett and Jane Armstrong, professionals trained in using evidence-based information developed through Stanford University. Topics include dealing with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation; use of medications; communicating effectively with friends, family, and health care providers; exercise; nutrition; and making informed decisions.

'Five Wishes' at First Presbyterian
DURHAM -- Homer Ashby Jr. will lead a class at First Presbyterian Church, 305 E. Main St. on "Five Wishes" at 9:45 a.m. Sunday in Watts Hill Hall.
The class about five wishes that concern people as they plan for their future will continue Sundays through Oct. 18.
Ashby served as professor of pastoral care at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago before retiring to Durham.
He is the author of "Our Home Is Over Jordan: A Black Pastoral Theology." "Five Wishes" is a program designed by Aging With Dignity in Tallahassee, Fla. The public is invited to the classes. For information, call 682-5511.
