Group to get kids computers

DURHAM -- Durham County government has formed a partnership to meet the need of Durham Public School students who need computers at home.

Computers 4 Kids is a partnership between Durham County Government, DPS , the United Way of the Greater Triangle, and the Volunteer Center of Durham that enables county surplus desktop computers to be refurbished for use by DPS students. Computers are given to the students for free. Computers 4 Kids hopes to provide recipients with free access to Internet service in the future.

Students will be referred by Durham County Department of Social Services, DPS social workers, DPS teachers, DPS tutors or the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council. Potential recipients must be enrolled in the DPS system and be between the ages of 8 and 12.

Applications will be fulfilled on a first come, first served basis.

NCCU campus rec director

DURHAM -- North Carolina Central University has tapped alumnus Erica Dixon as the director of campus recreation.

As director, Dixon will contribute to the health and well-being of the members of the university community through a range of recreational and leisure programs and activities on the campus of NCCU.
