DWI charged after collision
Durham -- Durham man was charged with driving while impaired after he collided with a police car shortly before 4:30 p
Durham -- Durham man was charged with driving while impaired after he collided with a police car shortly before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on University Drive.
According to a preliminary investigation, Jeffery Thomas Klein, 29, of Durham, was driving west on University Drive when he attempted to make a left turn onto Ivy Creek Boulevard and collided with an eastbound marked patrol car driven by Durham Police Officer C.L. McCoy.
Klein turned in front of McCoy, according to police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.
Klein was charged with driving while impaired and making an unsafe movement.
Both vehicles were total losses. Klein and McCoy suffered minor injuries.
Klein was released on $2,000 bond.
Thefts reported
DURHAM -- A gas-powered generator, diamond wedding rings and 12-packs of beer were among property stolen in recent thefts police are investigating. Here are the details:
-- Three diamond wedding rings worth $2,100 were stolen from a home in the 900 block of Grandview Drive on Wednesday.
-- Thieves took a 17-inch laptop computer and box of jewelry valued at $1,350 from a home in the 1200 block of Open Air Camp Road on Wednesday.
-- A 27-inch flat screen television worth $500 was taken from a home in the 3200 block of Marywood Drive on Wednesday.
-- Two Samsung televisions and an Apple laptop computer with a total value of $4,850 were stolen from a home in the 4600 block of Lazyriver Drive on Monday.
-- A gasoline-powered generator valued at $599 was stolen from a home in the 1100 block of North Buchanan Boulevard on Wednesday.
n Burglars hit a home in the 2500 block of Shenandoah Avenue on Wednesday and took an MP3 player, jewelry and a laptop computer with a total value of $1,350.
-- Two 12-packs of Budweiser beer were shoplifted from the Kangaroo store in the 3300 block of Guess Road on Tuesday.
