A new anthology of North Carolina musicians -- among them Squirrel Nut Zippers, Megfaun, Tres Chicas and others -- will raise money for an organization that helps family farms that are facing hardship.

The CD, titled "North Carolina Homegrown Music for the Soil," is a partnership between Whole Foods Market and Redeye Distribution. The disc is now available in all Whole Foods stores. Whole Foods is donating 100 percent of the sales of the recording to Feed the Farm, an organization created in 2008 to reach out to small farms. The organization raises and distributes funds and support to family farms in acute financial crisis. Feed the Farm also seeks to connect farmers to resources to address their situation or prevent a future crisis.

"We are honored to partner with Whole Foods Market on this project," said Carrie Le Chevallier, Feed the Farm executive director. "It is our hope that the music of these North Carolina artists will remind music lovers of the hardworking family farms in North Carolina who need our help."

Some of the artists whose work is on this compilation are Tift Merritt ("Harder Feeling"), Midtown Dickens ("Airplane"), Carolina Chocolate Drops ("Sourwood Mountain"), The Moaners ("Hopelessly Lost"), Greg Humphreys ("Buttons and Strings") and others.

Whole Foods Market, founded in Austin, Texas, in 1980, specializes in natural and organic foods. Redeye Distribution, based in Haw River, was founded in 1996 and provides regional musicians wider exposure for their work.
