RALEIGH -- The North Carolina Symphony has announced the creation of the N.C. Symphony Young All-Stars, an exclusive new chamber orchestra for advanced high school musicians, led by music director Grant Llewellyn in partnership with the Triangle's Philharmonic Association and its music director, Hugh Partridge.

North Carolina high school students ages 14-19 are invited to audition at Meymandi Concert Hall at Raleigh's Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts on Sept. 26. Audition requirements, application and further details can be found at www.ncsymphony.org/education. Click on Competition & Awards on the left.

The new group's schedule includes concerts on Dec. 6 and April 11, as well as rehearsals.

For students who live out of the area, accommodations in private homes can be provided. A participation fee of $75 is required; scholarships may be available.
