Citgo break-in suspect sought

DURHAM -- Durham police investigators are asking for information about a Sunday break-in to the Citgo Food Mart, 4319 N.C. 55.

Officers responded to an alarm at the business at 4:31 a.m. and discovered that the front door glass had been smashed with a rock. A man entered the business and stole beer. He fled in a black, two-door sedan which resembled a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The suspect was described as a black man with a large build. He was wearing a white T-shirt, jeans, a dark ball cap and a green bandana tied around his neck.

Various drug charges filed

DURHAM -- On July 30, officers from the Special Operations Division served a search warrant at 3012 Banner St., right side, in reference to a drug investigation. They arrested Anthony Tapp on the following charges, according to Capt. Morris Taylor:

n Trafficking cocaine, two counts.

n Possession with intent to sell cocaine, two counts.

n Maintaining a dwelling for drug sale, four counts.

Tapp was in the Durham County Jail on Thursday under a bond of $600,000.

Charges pile up on jailed suspect

DURHAM -- Police have accused Ronald Dukes, who was arrested after a brief chase over the weekend and charged with committing a series of crimes, with two more offenses -- attempted robbery and assault on a female, after a witness identified Ronald Dukes as the suspect, according to investigators.

The crime occurred in the 800 block of West Main Street on the evening of Aug. 7.

The victim was getting in her brother's vehicle when a man -- allegedly Dukes -- got out of a red Ford F-150 pickup truck and tried to grab her purse and pull her out of her brother's vehicle, police said. The suspect kept pulling on the woman until the her brother came to her aid. The suspect fled in the truck, which was involved in an incident on Hillsborough Road 15 minutes later.

In that incident, a man driving a red Ford F-150 pickup truck -- allegedly Dukes -- pulled into the parking lot of the BP convenience store at 3511 Hillsborough Road at 11:40 p.m. He got out of the truck and approached a woman who was putting air in her vehicle tires.

He allegedly grabbed her and tried to drag her back to her vehicle. When several witnesses came to her aid, he got in her car and tried to drive off. The woman had fallen on the ground and the man drove over her legs, causing her to suffer a possible leg fracture. He got back in the pickup truck and fled into the parking lot of George's Diner, where he crashed the truck. He jumped out and fled on foot. The damaged pickup truck had been stolen from Morgan Street.

Dukes, 33, of East Markham Avenue, was earlier charged with common-law robbery, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, second-degree kidnapping, attempted common-law robbery, hit-and-run, resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer, breaking and entering to a motor vehicle, misdemeanor larceny, two counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle.

He was in Durham County Jail on Thursday under a $615,000 bond.

76-year-old man is still missing

DURHAM -- Police continue their search for 76-year-old John Henry Cheatham, who has been missing since Aug. 7. A Silver Alert has been issued.

Cheatham was last seen at his home in the 4100 block of Casa Street. He is described as black, 5 foot 7 and 180 pounds. He has short black and gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt with the word ARMY on the front, khaki pants, a black ball cap with the word ARMY on it and khaki athletic shoes. He is believed to suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairment.

Apex man jailed on drug charges

DURHAM -- Jonathan Gray Nelms, 27, of 4640 Hollybrook Drive in Apex was arrested and jailed Tuesday after being charged with possession of crack cocaine and heroin with intent to sell or deliver it, and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

He remained in the Durham County Jail on Thursday under a $10,000 bond.

Woman missing for two weeks

DURHAM -- Sheriff's deputies are looking for a missing woman, Linda Clay Shobe, 44, who was last seen in the area of 1400 South Miami Boulevard about 3 a.m. on Aug. 1.

Shobe is 5 foot 7, weighs 150 pounds and has green eyes and blonde, shoulder-length hair.

Break-in suspect sought by police

DURHAM -- Police investigators are asking for information about an Aug. 1 break-in to a work van at 4319 Western Park Place near Hillsborough Road.

A male broke into the work van around 6:30 a.m. and took several tools. He fled on a dark-colored mountain bicycle. The suspect is described as a thin white male approximately 6 feet tall. He was wearing khaki pants and a beige shirt with a palm tree design on it. He was carrying a dark bookbag.

Property thefts are reported

DURHAM -- Copper piping and an Xbox video game console were among property stolen in recent thefts police are investigating. Here are the details:

n Burglars hit a home in the 1400 block of East Club Boulevard on Tuesday and stole copper piping valued at $500.

n A home burglary in the 1100 block of South Hoover Road netted thieves two televisions, a DVD player, an Xbox video game console, eight Xbox games and eight DVDs, with a total value of $680.
