Census meeting set for Aug
OXFORD -- The U.S. Census Bureau has asked Granville County to arrange a 2010 Census Complete Count Committee meeting for Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 3 p.m. in the county commission meeting room, 145 Williamsboro St. The meeting is expected to last an hour.
Granville new teacher breakfast
OXFORD -- The annual Granville County New Teacher Breakfast is set for 7:30 a.m. Friday in the cafeteria of the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St.
The gathering provides incoming educators with the chance to meet government and elected officials, business owners and County Chamber of Commerce members. And the incoming educators will receive gifts from the businesses.
The breakfast is being prepared by Morrison's/Granville Health System.
Hiking trail, paddle access area to open
WILTON -- The grand opening of the Wilton Slopes Hiking Trails and Paddle Access is on go for 7 p.m. Thursday at the site just off N.C. 96 at the edge of the Tar River.
Granville County officials advise motorists that, due to limited parking space, they need to arrange for carpools.
State commerce chief to speak
CREEDMOOR -- State Commerce Secretary J. Keith Crisco will speak to the Granville County Chamber of Commerce's Government Forum Committee at 8 a.m. Aug. 21 at Creedmoor City Hall, 111 W. Masonic St.
Crisco had been serving on the Asheboro City Council since 2003 until joining Gov. Beverly Perdue's cabinet. Crisco, who holds a master of business administration from Harvard University, founded an elastics company in 1986.
From 1970-71, Crisco was a White House Fellow, serving as assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce in the Nixon administration. Crisco additionally served on the board of trustees of Pfeiffer University from 1981-2008. And he is a past chairman of the N.C. Center for Public Policy Research.
