Former Hillside QB Vad Lee picks James Madison
DURHAM — Former Hillside High School quarterback Vad Lee on Monday used Twitter to reveal where he’d land after recently announcing that he was transferring from Georgia Tech.
“I am so grateful for the 3 years at Tech,” Lee wrote. “But I am excited for another great opportunity to be apart of the James Madison University family!”
James Madison, in Harrisonburg, Va., competes as a Football Championship Subdivision team in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dukes, 6-6 last season, launch their 2014 campaign at Maryland, a Football Bowl Subdivision School in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Since James Madison is an FCS school, Lee, a redshirt sophomore, is eligible to play this season and will have another year of eligibility remaining, according to NCAA rules.
If Lee had transferred to a higher-level FBS school, then he would have had to sit out the upcoming season, giving up a year of eligibility.
Lee led Hillside to the 2010 4-A championship. Hillside coach Antonio King was in charge of that Hornets team.
King, who helped Lee with his transfer from Georgia Tech, had said that his former quarterback likely would go to an FCS school to avoid sitting out another year.
