Houston powers NCCU to victory

Alfonzo Houston posted a season-high 17 points to help N.C. Central remain unbeaten in the MEAC with an 82-54 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday night.
NCCU (15-7, 8-0 MEAC) increased its winning streak to nine games by outscoring the Hawks 47-26 in the first half while shooting 58.3 percent from the field.
The Eagles shot 7-of-13 from 3-point range in the first half to bury UMES (1-17, 1-7) in the first frame.
Houston, a 6-3 junior guard, came off the bench to make 4-of-7 shots from the field and all nien of his free throw attempts in 17 minutes of action.
Ray Willis and Jeremy Ingram both scored 13 points for the Eagles, while Stanton Kidd added 12 points.
In all, 11 players scored for NCCU, including Emanuel Chapman with three points with six assists. The junior now has 353 career assists, seven shy of Donald Sinclair for third in school history.
The win gives NCCU its longest winning streak since the 1996-97 season when the Eagles won eight straight to begin the year.
Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-17, 1-6) was paced by 18 points and 10 rebounds from Troy Snyder as the Hawks dropped their fourth straight while making just 18 of 55 field goal attempts.
