Carrboro girls, Cedar Ridge boys win C-12 titles


HILLSBOROUGH — The Carrboro girls downed runner-up Durham School of the Arts 148-102 and the Cedar Ridge boys’ stopped No. 2 Carrboro 156-104 in the Carolina 12 1-A/2-A Conference championship meet at Cedar Ridge High School Wednesday.

Diamond Tyson won the shot and discus to lead the Carrboro girls while Cameron Cooper took home the 100 and 200 titles to lead the Cedar Ridge boys.
 

BASEBALL

East Chapel Hill 2, Chapel Hill 1


CHAPEL HILL — John Page and Josh Baldwin each drove in a run in the top of the third inning for East Chapel Hill Wednesday and Connor Stough held on for the win with relief help from Sean Moore in the final two innings.

Chapel Hill, which was held hitless through five innings by Stough (2-2) scored its only run in the sixth on a home run by Brooks Benton off Moore. Moore allowed three hits in two innings but picked up his first save.

 BOYS’ TENNIS

Carrboro dominates C-12 tournament


PITTSBORO — Carolina 12 1-A/2-A Conference regular season champion Carrboro dominated Wednesday’s conference championship tournament qualifying two singles players and two doubles teams for the May 3-4 2-A Mideast Regional in Reidsville.

The competition did not include pre-tournament Nos. 1 and 2 seeds in singles and doubles who all received byes into the regional.
 

Gibbons leads way

RALEIGH — Cardinal Gibbons took first and second place in singles and first and third in doubles Wednesday at the Carolina 3-A Conference championships.

Chapel Hill’s Garcian D’Cruz defeated teammate Arjun Raghavan in the singles consolation finals, both moving on to the state 3-A playoffs. Chapel Hill doubles teams also qualified for the playoffs by finishing second and fourth.

 Cary Academy 6, DA 3

DURHAM — Durham Academy fell to 12-2 overall despite wins by Justin Warren at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles (with Sam Lane). DA’s other win came from Jason Lapidus at No. 3 singles.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Cedar Ridge 2, South Granville 1


CREEDMOOR — Alexis Zielke scored both Cedar Ridge goals and Delaney King made nine saves to lead the Red Wolves. Courtney Phillips scored South Granville’s first-half goal.

Riverside 7, Hillside 2

DURHAM — Riverside’s Kayla Hudson had a hat trick for the second game in a row as she scored three times in the first half. Marie Muir added two more for a 5-0 halftime lead.

Jordan 9, Roxboro Person 0

ROXBORO — Millie Blivin, Sophia Oliverio and Amy Hicks posted two goals each to lead Jordan over Person in PAC-6 girls’ soccer action Wednesday.

Kate Ford, Callie Scher and Annalies Jobsis added a goal each for the Falcons (12-2-2, 8-0-2 PAC-6).

SOFTBALL

Orange 11, Cedar Ridge 7


HILLSBOROUGH — Cedar Ridge jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the road, but Orange answered with eight runs in the bottom of the second and third innings.
