PawSox blow out Bulls, 10-0

Jun. 30, 2014 @ 10:36 PM

Pawtucket starter Anthony Ranaudo tossed seven shutout innings against Durham for the second time in June as the PawSox earned a sixth consecutive win, a 10-0 shutout of the Durham Bulls Monday night in front of 4,688 fans at McCoy Stadium.

Durham (45-41) is just 2-12 over its last 14 games and is 11-19 in the regular season at McCoy Stadium under manager Charlie Montoyo.

Pawtucket (45-41) scored four runs in the third, then three more in both the fourth and fifth innings. Andres Torres' three-run home run highlighted the rally in the third while Alex Hassan's three-run double in the fifth completed the scoring.

Ranaudo (9-4) allowed only three hits and two walks during his seven dominating innings while striking out five. The righthander has now thrown 14 scoreless innings against the Bulls in two starts, and has allowed only three total runs over his last five outings.

Durham starter Nathan Karns (4-5) was charged with eight of Pawtucket's ten runs in his 4.2 innings of work. Dan Butler's RBI single started the scoring in the third and was followed by Torres' blast to right-centerfield, only his second hit since joining Pawtucket from Short-Season Class A Lowell earlier in the homestand.

The final six PawSox runs scored with two outs in an inning, including RBI hits from Hassan (double), Butler (double) and Torres (single) in the fourth that made the score 7-0. Hassan's three-run double in the fifth came against Bulls reliever Jake Thompson.

Pawtucket will try for its first series sweep of the season in game four of the series Tuesday night. Righty Rubby De La Rosa (2-3, 3.04) will get the ball for the PawSox, while right-hander Matt Andriese (7-4, 3.53) is expected to start for the Bulls with first pitch at 6:15 p.m.
