PAC-6 GIRLS' QUARTERS: Northern, Riverside advance

Andrea’Anna Poole scored 17 points to lead Riverside to an easy 61-25 win over Roxboro Person in the quarterfinals of the PAC-6 girls basketball tournament at Person High School here Tuesday.

In the day’s second PAC-6 4-A Tournament girls’ quarterfinal, Northern eliminated East Chapel Hill’s girls.

In the opener, the No. 3 seed Pirates jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Riverside held a 30-12 halftime and then held No. 6 seed Person to single-digit scoring in the third and fourth quarters.

Riverside hit six 3s in the game with Poole and Madison Nichting each hitting three. The Pirates outrebounded Person 39-32 with Moné Jones pulling down eight.

Riverside (16-7) will play No. 2 seed Jordan tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Person, site of all the PAC-6 girls and boys tournament games, which continue through Friday night.

In the second game of the girls’ quarterfinals, Rhianna Council scored 17 points and Madison Taylor added 15 to lead No. 4 seed Northern to a 51-45 win over No. 5 East Chapel Hill.

Northern built a 28-20 halftime lead and then put the game out of reach in the third quarter.

East Chapel Hill was led by Ali Cyr-Scully with 19 points, including four 3-pointers. The Wildcats finished their season 7-15.

Northern (11-11) will take on top-seeded Hillside tonight at 6 p.m. at Person in the day’s first girls semifinal.
