Riverside girls fall to West Forsyth in H.S. OT opener
West Forsyth didn’t have a single player reach double figures in scoring but it was enough to beat Riverside 44-32 in the first round of the High School OT Invitational girls’ bracket.
The Pirates (7-3) had no answer for West Forsyth (9-2) on the boards, either.
West Forsyth finished with 43 rebounds — one fewer than its point total — compared with 19 for Riverside.
Riverside, which suffered it second straight loss, fell behind by double digits early in the game and never recovered. The Pirates were outscored 18-7 in the first quarter. West Forsyth went on to build a 32-12 halftime lead.
Riverside coach Alicia Jones said she was not happy with the way her team started off against West Forsyth.
“We started off very sluggish,” Jones said. “To be off for as long as we were, it really showed in the first quarter.”
Riverside’s best quarter was the fourth where it outscored West Forsyth 12-6 but by then the game was long decided.
Kiara Jacobs led the Pirates with 12 points, with six coming in the final period.
West Forsyth was led by Jazmine Jones, who scored nine points. Dumebi Egbuna led the way on the boards with 14 for West Forsyth to go along with six points, while Jessica Jones had 12 boards and eight points.
