Southern's Evans gets top award at 4-A meet
Southern's Jacinda Evans won the 100, 200 long jump and triple jump at the 4-A state track meet at North Carolina A&T and took home the most valuable performer award.

Riverside's late bat barrage pays off
Riverside’s bats finally came alive in the bottom of the sixth as the Pirates rallied to beat Fayetteville Pine Forest 3-2 in the first round of the 4-A state playoffs on Friday night.

Northern boys hoops coach Hunt resigns
Northern basketball coach Matt Hunt resigned Thursday as announced in a release by the school's athletics direct Walt Hensler.
"It is with great regret that I must announce that Matt Hunt, boys basketball coach at Northern, has announced his resignation from coaching due to personal/family reasons," Hensler said in the release.

Martin, Chargers survive Orange
Northwood coach Rick Parks used several adjectives when describing pitcher Clay Martin, but he kept coming back to one.
“Clay Martin is the grittiest, grittiest player I have,” Parks said. “He can put this team on his back. When he sets the tone and he comes to play, we all come to play. He’s just a gritty, gritty player.”

NCHSAA gives OK to plan for realignment
The NCHSAA Board of Directors concluded its spring meeting on Wednesday with a flurry of actions.
Chief among the items approved by the board was the realignment plan for 2009-13 that will begin in August of next year. No changes were made from the original proposal.
