Time for some payback?
Both the N.C. Central and Duke men’s basketball teams find themselves in similar situations today — seeking to avenge earlier losses.
The Miami Hurricanes (23-4, 14-1 ACC), who handed the Blue Devils a 90-63 beating on Jan. 26, visit Cameron Indoor Statium today (6 p.m., ESPN).
Duke, of course, should be doubly motivated after Thursday night’s 73-68 loss at Virginia that left the Blue Devils with a slim one-game lead over the Cavaliers and rival North Carolina in the ACC standings.
In the case of NCCU, today’s 4 p.m. tipoff comes exactly two weeks since Savannah State handed the Eagles their first MEAC loss of the season. That left NCCU (19-8, 12-1) needing help if it has any chance of claiming the top seed in the conference tournament.
Savannah State (17-11, 10-3) is third in the league standings and would need to win its final two games to bump NCCU from the second seed.
But while postseason seedings are important, restoring pride may be the biggest factor for the Blue Devils and Eagles in their matchups today.
