NCCU women top Savannah State for first win

Feb. 16, 2013 @ 07:36 PM

The N.C. Central women’s basketball team was in a familiar position at halftime Saturday, trailing Savannah State but only by a point.

The ending of this one, however, was unlike any of the Lady Eagles’ previous 23 games this season, as they emerged with a 43-38 victory for their first win of the season.
NCCU’s 29-game losing streak dated to Feb. 11, 2012, when the Eagles also were victorious over Savannah State at McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
For first-year NCCU coach Vanessa Taylor, the win was the 299th of her career.
Chasidy Williams led NCCU with 14 points, while Aja Hoyle added 13. Tisha Dixon pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds for the Lady Eagles, who visit South Carolina State on Monday.
