NCCU women top Norfolk State to close regular season

N.C. Central closed out the regular season with a 63-53 MEAC women’s basketball road win at Norfolk State Thursday night.

NCCU (11-18, 6-10 MEAC) rode a game-high 22 points from Jessica Freeman and 13 points and nine rebounds from Raquel Davis to the win.

The Lady Eagles grabbed a 14-point lead at halftime and Norfolk State (12-15, 8-8 MEAC) wasn’t able to overcome it, despite outscoring NCCU 34-30 in the second half.

NCCU out-shot Norfolk State 45.8 percent to 32.8 percent from the floor (22-48 vs. 21-64) and held a decided edge at the line, making 18 of 27 free throws to just 11 of 12 for Norfolk State.

NCCU returns to action Monday at the Norfolk Scope Arena in the first round of the MEAC Tournament.
