Riverside's Kithcart dishes out Justice to Pender County

A year ago, Justice Kithcart was having his way in middle school basketball gyms. On Thursday, the Riverside High freshman point guard scored 20 points on his home floor to help the Pirates beat Pender County 76-59 in the first round of the Tobacco Road Tip Time Invitational.

Unbeaten Chapel Hill girls win Carolina in the Pines tournament

Tournament MVP Jamella Smith and freshman forward Autumn West keyed Chapel Hill’s 54-49 win over Cornelius Hough (7-2) Saturday night as the Tigers (9-0) won the Carolina in the Pines holiday invitational basketball tournament at Pinecrest High School.

Prep Roundup: Webb, Hicks fall to Reed, Shiloh

Poor shooting, particularly by star Isaiah Hicks, helped the Shiloh Generals to a second-round win in the Chick-fil-A Invitational holiday tournament at Richland Northeast High School here Friday night. Hicks, the 6-foot-9 UNC signee, had a big night overall, particularly since he was playing against one of the top juniors in the country in 7-1 Trayvon Reed.

Jashawn King-Barnette put a storybook ending on what had been a horror story for the Person Rockets, sinking a breathtaking 3-point basket with a defender right in his face and less than two seconds left to defeat Southern at home in a frenzied come-from-behind win.

Riverside's Tillotson lifts Pirates to twinbill sweep of ECH

Riverside center Mike Tillotson scored on a putback with 20 seconds left, but the Pirates had to survive a last-second 3-point attempt to put away East Chapel Hill 50-49 in a frantic finish on Friday night. In the girls’ game opener, Riverside’s Zaria Rogers scored 16 points as the Pirates held off an East Chapel Hill rally to score a 53-43 victory.

Hornet McAllister's 3 at buzzer nips Chapel Hill

Marius McAllister's game-ending 3-pointer snaps tie gives Hillside its second win over the Tigers in two weeks. Loss is Chapel Hill's third this season. The Tigers lost only two last season.
