Riverside, Chris Howell each pick up 1st football victory

To win some you have to lose some. That’s the case as least if you believe Riverside High School first year football coach Christopher Howell, who talked about that after his Pirates defeated Cedar Ridge High School 33-13 Friday in Hillsborough to claim their first victory of the season.

Hillside drops 3rd tight home game to state power

Another tough opponent handed Hillside a disappointing loss on Friday night. Defending state 4-A champion Greensboro Dudley prevailed 12-9 thanks to a late fourth-quarter touchdown by sophomore quarterback Hendon Hooker.

Millbrook (3-1) rode the power legs of senior back Marcus Marshall (17 carries, 223 yards, three touchdowns) and the arm of quarterback Reid Herring (16-22-1, 159 yards, two touchdowns) to an easy win over the Knights (0-4).

Southern comeback drops powerhouse Scotland County

Southern High School rode a late two-touchdown rally here Thursday night to take down down perennial state power Scotland County 34-28. ... In Fayetteville, Granville Central routed Village Christian Academy 46-0. ... Both games were moved up a night because of threatening weather.

Cedar Ridge chews up Orange County rival East Chapel Hill

Demetrius Lyles melted through, past and around the defensive coverage for a pair of touchdown receptions, Julius Walton ran like a man possessed for another pair, and Cedar Ridge scored on six of seven possessions to thump East Chapel Hill 42-16.

Orange powers past Riverside to make it 3-0 vs. PAC-6

Tay Jones and Eryk Brandon-Dean scored two touchdowns apiece and quarterback Garrett Cloer threw a pair as Orange dominated Riverside 45-12 on Friday night.

Panthers cruise to homecoming win

The score was Granville Central 48, Kestrel Heights 0. Then they started the second quarter. It was announced right before the start of the second quarter that the game clock malfunctioned and that the officials would keep the time on the field. The scoreboard mysteriously kept working, though, and Granville Central kept adding points to it until the final result was 80-0 on Friday.
