CARRBORO — Carrboro 24-4 season came to a close in the second round of the NCHSAA 2-A playoffs Wednesday night as the Jaguars fell to visiting Bunn (21-6).
“They jumped all over us at the beginning of the game,” Carrboro coach John Alcox said.
The Jags trimmed a seven-point deficit in the first quarter to three (36-33) at the half, then battled back and forth to the buzzer. Marlin Johnson’s two free throws with 18 seconds left put Carrboro up by a point but Bunn’s DeShawn High hit a backdoor layup to give Bunn what turned out to be the winning score when Johnson’s game-winning try with 1.2 seconds left rimmed out.
Bunn rebounded and made a free throw for the final margin.
