Prep Roundup: DA, Cresset, CFS fall in girls' tourney title games

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Cary Academy 54, Durham Academy 50 (2 OT)

RALEIGH — Cary Academy outscored Durham Academy 7-3 in the second overtime Friday night to escape with the Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference Tournament championship.
Rebekah Banks scored 17 points and Cassy Stafford and Mickayla Sanders 14 each for CA which only got nine points from the rest of its roster.
DA had a balanced attack with no double-figure scorers despite the length of the title game. Liz Roberts and Cha’Mia Rothwell had nine apiece to lead DA while Amanda Lawrence, Robin Blazing and Naomi Lerner had eight each. Dana Williams added seven.
Lawrence, who had 12 rebounds, and Rothwell were named to the all-TISAC team.

Grace Christian 69, Cresset Christian 61
SANFORD — Homestanding Grace Christian School stopped Cresset Christian Academy in the Carolina Christian Conference Tournament championship game Friday night behind a game high 33 points from Brooke Strickland.
Cresset (15-7) got 28 points of its own from freshman Maredith Devlin and Devlin’s sister, senior Melissa, scored 14 for Cresset. Maggie Addison chipped in 13 but Grace (25-3) was too much for Cresset to handle.

Caldwell Academy 37, Carolina Friends School 35
BURLINGTON — Carolina Friends School chipped away at Caldwell Academy’s lead in the second half but fell short, losing 37-35 in the championship game of the Triad Athletic Conference tournament at Burlington Christian Academy.
Jolene Wells led Carolina Friends (18-8) with 11 points, while Lydia Youngblood had nine point and nine assists. Both were named to the TAC all-conference team.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Orange 60, Northern Vance 37

HILLSBOROUGH — Jalen Pittman posted 17 points and Gerrell Satterwhite 12 to lead Orange to a 60-37 win over Northern Vance in Carolina 6 boys’ basketball Friday night.
Pittman and J.D. Brooks pulled down six rebounds each for the Panthers (9-13, 4-6 Carolina 6).

Fellowship Baptist 67, Mt. Calvary 31
DURHAM — Timothy Dail scored 13 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead Fellowship Baptist to a 67-31 win over Mount Calvary on Friday night to earn a spot in next week’s NCCSAA 1-A State Tournament.
Andrew Moolenaar chipped in 15 points and Jonathan Hartman pulled down 17 rebounds for Fellowship (32-3), which claimed the District 4 regular-season title.
