BASEBALL

Orange 10, Chapel Hill 0


CHAPEL HILL — In a game moved to Thursday from its originally scheduled date today, Orange moved to 5-1 in the Carolina 6 3-A Conference with a six-inning, mercy rule shutout at Chapel Hill.

Bryse Wilson improved to 7-0 on the mound and Andrew Toney and Nick Debo each drove in a pair of runs for the Panthers.

 

Northwood 13, Cedar Ridge 3

HILLSBOROUGH — Northwood rode the four-hit pitching of starter and winner Robert Straughn and a pair of home runs from Justin King to a win in a game stopped after five innings by the state’s 10-run mercy rule.

Northwood improved to 10-0 in Carolina 12 1-A/2-A Conference play and Cedar Ridge dropped to 4-6 in league play. Both teams are 2-A programs.

DA 157, Northern 160


DURHAM — Durham Academy used balanced scoring from its top four to offset a 4-under-par 32 by medalist Luke Perry and down Northern by three strokes at a Willowhaven Country Club Thursday.

Northern coach Kevin Wicker said of Perry’s 9-hole effort: “Excellent. I’ll take that any day.”

Dylan Lukes finished second to Perry with a 2-over 38 and was followed by DA teammates Will Beischer (39), Braxton Lloyd (40) and Peter Fox (40) in the scoring column.



GIRLS’ SOCCER

Riverside 7,  Hillside 0


DURHAM — Marie Muir, Kayla Hudson and Eliza Butts each scored a pair of goals and Kathryn Thacker added one in Riverside’s PAC-6 4-A shutout victory.

Caitlyn Patton saved all seven shots she faced for Riverside and Kirsten Smith managed 19 saves out of a 26-shot Riverside barrage for Hillside.



Jordan 7, WF-R 1

DURHAM — Two goals apiece from Jordan’s Millicent Blivins and Rachel Hill helped the Falcons beat Wake Forest-Rolesville. Hill also got her foot in on a couple of assists.



O’Neal 4, Trinity/Durham 0

SOUTHERN PINES — Southern Pines O’Neal scored a pair of goals in the first and second halves and shut out the Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill Thursday.
 

Cedar Ridge 0, DSA 0, 2 OT

DURHAM — Cedar Ridge, which lost to Northwood 6-1 on Wednesday night, forged a 0-0 tie at Durham School of the Arts Thursday as the teams failed to score through regulation and a pair of overtime periods.


BOYS’ TENNIS

CFS 6, Trinity/Durham 3


DURHAM — Carolina Friends School won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to dispatch the Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill Thursday.



Jordan 9, Riverside 0

DURHAM — Jordan shut out Riverside in the Falcons’ final home match of the year.



TRACK & FIELD

D.A. sweeps meet


DURHAM — Durham Academy swept both the boys’ and girls’ sides of ahome invitational meet against Cary Chistian, Raleigh Word of God, Raleigh St. David’s, Cresset Christian Academy and Coastal Christian Thursday.

The girls beat second place Cary Christian 177-96 and the boys beat second place Coastal Christian 158-83.



SOFTBALL

Orange 13, Chapel Hill 3


CHAPEL HILL — Orange remained undefeated in Carolina 6 3-A Conference play with a 5- inning, mercy rule rout of Chapel Hill.

Kyrbee Cheek improved to 11-1 with a complete game victory, backed by the hitting of Mackenzie Cates (2-4, double, 4 RBI), Chenoa Daye (1-2, double, 2 RBI) and Brooke Copeland (2 RBI).
