Outlaw, Rockets pound Spartans
The Roxboro Person boys’ basketball held a slim six-point lead heading into the fourth but pulled away in the final minutes for a 75-59 victory over Southern on Tuesday.
The victory was Person’s (11-8, 5-2 PAC-6) third in a row after dropping its previous six.
Tyrone Outlaw Jr. had a big night with 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists. The reigning PAC-6 Player of the Year buried four 3-pointers in the first quarter and capped another big night with an alley oop dunk over a Southern defender that pushed the Rockets’ lead to 62-54 midway through the fourth quarter.
Jeffrey Hamlette and Devin Scoggins each finished with eight for the Rockets. Christian Jay and Tyran Cameron scored 12 points each for Southern, while Shamiek Wilson chipped in 10.

ROXBORO — The Southern girls’ basketball team got off to a quick and never looked back as it throttled host Roxboro Person 85-37 Tuesday.
The Spartans raced out to a 23-3 first-quarter lead and led by at least 20 for the remainder of the game. Southern led 48-21 at the half and opened the third quarter on a 22-2 run during the first six minutes.
Sydni-Kym Dobson paced the Spartans with 17, while Tiera Johnson and Regene Wilson finished with 13.
Christina Harris returned to the Rockets’ lineup after missing the past few games with an ankle injury and poured in 16 points.
