WRESTLING
All seven area teams fall in 1st or 2nd rounds of state playoffs
Area teams were not the flavor of the day in the first and second rounds of the state dual-team wrestling championships in 1-A. 2-A, 3-A and 4-A classifications contested Tuesday night.
All seven area teams were eliminated, five in the first round, two others in the second round
Northern fell at home in the first round to Wilmington Laney 46-28.
In the first round, Jordan knocked Panther Creek out of the tournament with a 39-27.
Ayden Grifton eliminated N.C. Science and Math in the first round of the 1-A class in Durham, Orange lost in the second round of the 3-A’s at home to Eden Morehead 34-31 after opening with a win over Gray’s Creek 45-44, and Chapel Hill lost on the road to West Brunswick 57-12.
Durham School of the Arts won its opener against Jacksonville Northside 37-29, but lost in the second round to homestanding Wendell Corinth Holders 51-21.
In another 2-A match, Northwood downed cross-county rival Siler City Jordan-Matthews 61-11 in Pittsboro, but was eliminated in the second round by North Pitt 47-17.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Granville Central 70, Cedar Ridge 62

STEM — Nyquan Wortham had a huge game as host Granville Central (8-15, 3-12 C-12) upset Cedar Ridge (8-16, 8-8) in a Carolina 12 1-A/2-A Conference game Tuesday night.
Wortham scored 31 points, 15 coming on five 3s, and also led Granville Central in asssits with four and steals with five. Kaleb Hunter chipped in 18 points and a game-high 14 assists.

Carrboro 74, Durham School of the Arts 53
DURHAM — Point guard McLean Phipps took advance of Durham School of the Arts stacked-in zone defense to lead all scorers with 21 points in Carrboro’s road win.
The Jaguars improved to 14-0 in Carolina 12 1-A/2-A Conference play with C-12 games still to be played Thursday and Friday nights.

Carolina Friends School 75, Salem Baptist 56
DURHAM — Josh Boone fired in 20 points to lead Carolina Friends School to a 75-56 win over Salem Baptist in the first round of the TAC Tournament.
Anthony Berry added 10 points for Carolina Friends (14-12), which advances to the semifinals on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Burlington Christian Academy.

Voyager Academy 71, Roxboro Community School 65
DURHAM — Voyager had four players in double figures but had to hold off Roxboro Community in the fourth quarter for a 71-65 win in Carolina 12 boys’ basketball Tuesday.
Gary Ford led Voyager (14-9, 10-6 Carolina 12) with 15 points, while Charlie Stone added 14 points, Coltyn Faucette 13 and Patrick Lester 12.
Christian Ingram put up a game-high 30 points for Roxboro Community (6-11, 3-11).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Chapel Hill 87, Northern Vance 8

CHAPEL HILL — Raziyah Farrington posted 17 points and Catherine Romaine added 16 to lead Chapel Hill to an 87-8 pounding of Northern Vance in Carolina 6 girls’ basketball action Tuesday night.
Romaine added 11 rebounds for the Tigers, while Tamia Eatmon had 11 points and Jamella Smith 10.
The Tigers raced to a 37-4 halftime advantage in the lopsided contest.

Carrboro 52, Durham School of the Arts 41
DURHAM — Diamond Tyson scored 26 points to power Carrboro to a 55-41 win over Durham School of the Arts in Carolina 12 girls’ basketball.
Halle Knowles added 11 points for Carrboro, which led 21-20 at halftime.
DSA’s Ariel Wilson posted a game-high 26 points, including four 3-pointers.

Cresset Christian Academy 56, Crossroads Christian 51 (OT)
DURHAM — Melissa Devlin sank six free throws in overtime to give Cresset a 56-51 win over Crossroads Christian in the quarterfinals of the Carolina Christian Conference Tournament on Tuesday night.
Devlin finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead Cresset into Thursday’s semifinals.
Maggie Addison added 13 points for Cresset, while Maredith Devlin had 11 points and blocked five shots.
Jessi Hayes had a game-high 27 points for Crossroads Christian, which outscored Cresset 12-3 in the fourth quarter to even the score.

Carolina Friends School 34, American Hebrew 10
DURHAM — Lydia Youngblood fired in 24 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead Carolina Friends School to a 34-10 victory over American Hebrew Academy in the opening round of the TAC Tournament on Tuesday night.
Carolina Friends (17-7), which led 16-6 at halftime before pulling away in the second half, will play Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill inthe semifinals on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Burlington Christian Academy.

Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill 44, Westchester Country Day 29
DURHAM — Allie Ruffing posted 19 points to lead Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill to a 44-29 victory over Westchester Country Day in the opening round of the TAC Tournament on Tuesday.
Kellie Schaefer grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Trinity (11-7), which built a 19-10 halftime lead.
