ECH shot putter Jon Beyle wins individual title at state 4-A championships
Jon Beyle of East Chapel Hill won the state shot put title with an effort off 61 feet, 10 inches Saturday at the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s state 4-A indoor track and field championships here.
Southern’s Jalen Peterkin was third in the event at 52-10.
Knightdale won the boys’ team title with 65 points. East Chapel Hill posted the best area finish, coming in 11th with 13 points. Riverside was 17th (10 points), Southern 26th (6) and Northern 42nd (2).
In the accompanying girls’ meet, Jordan’s Kelsey Perry finished third in the triple jump, the top individual area girls’ performance.
Jordan High was the top area finisher in the state girls’ meet, coming in 17th with nine points. Hillside and Southern tied for 29th with four points apiece.
The girls’ state champion was Wakefield with 80 points.
In the 1-A/2-A/3-A boys’ and girls’ meets held in the morning and early afternoon, South Granville led the local girls’ team finishers in 13th place. West Carteret won with 41 points, South had 11. Granville Central and Cedar Ridge tied for 29th with 7, Durham School of the Arts was 33rd with 6 and Orange was 41st with 4.
Burlington Cummings won the boys’ 1-A/2-A/3-A title with 36 points. Cedar Ridge (13th, 15 points) was the only area team that scored a point.
