Carrboro gets first victory over Northwood

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Carrboro 74, Northwood 62

PITTSBORO — Carrboro picked up its inaugural boys’ basketball win over Northwood on Tuesday night, dropping the Chargers 74-62 in Carolina 12 action.
“This is a big win for us,” Carrboro coach John Alcox said. “It’s the first time we’ve beaten Northwood on the road since our school opened (in 2007).”
The Jaguars (16-3, 12-0 Carolina 12 1A/2A) rode a balanced attack that includes six players with at least seven points, led by Trai Sharp (15), Marlin Johnson (14), James Scott (13) and Matt MacKinnon (12).
Ti Pinnix led Northwood (12-9, 9-4) with 21 points, while Aumad Walker had 11 and Kadarus Rone and Chaz Bailey 10 apiece.

NCSSM 69, Franklin 60
DURHAM — Michael Kearney fired in 26 points and Joseph Chukwu added 18 to lead N.C. School of Science and Math to a 69-60 victory over Franklin Academy in Carolina 12 boys’ basketball Tuesday.
Russell Aryeetey posted 12 points and Cole Simons grabbed 14 rebounds for the Unicorns (6-12, 6-10 Carolina 12).
Marcus McLean scored a game-high 32 points for Franklin (6-10, 4-8).

Carolina Friends 73, Trinity 49
DURHAM — Asante Monadjemi posted 20 points and Joshusa Boone added 17 to lead Carolina Friends School to a 73-49 win over Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill in boys’ basketball.
Milo Kim-Mayer chipped in 12 points for Carolina Friends (14-12, 8-2).
Hayes Thielman paced Trinity with 14 points.

Cresset 71, Trinity-Raleigh 61
DURHAM — Shawn Lipscomb fired in 28 points to lead Cresset to a 71-61 victory over Trinity of Raleigh in Carolina Christian Conference boys’ basketball.
Tristan Reese added 14 points, Timothy Knott had 13 and Sherwood Young 12 for Cresset (11-11, 5-6 Carolina Christian), which held a 25-18 scoring advantage in the final period to pull away.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Cedar Ridge 55, DSA 30
DURHAM — Kacia Vines and Kyley Clark posted 12 points each to lead Cedar Ridge to a 55-30 win over Durham School of the Arts in girls’ basketball action Tuesday night.
Ariel Wilson led DSA (8-7, 5-7 Carolina 12) with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Durham Academy 64, St. Mary’s 29
DURHAM — Cha’Mia Rothwell fired in 21 points to lead Durham Academy to a 64-29 win over St. Mary’s School in TISAC girls’ basketball.
Amanda Lawrence chipped in 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Cavaliers (17-9), who led 36-13 at halftime.

Carolina Friends 36, Trinity 19
DUHRAM — Lydia Youngblood posted 13 points to lead Carolina Friends School to a 36-19 win over Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Youngblood pulled down 12 rebounds for CFS (15-7, 6-1 TAC). Kellie Schaeffer led Trinity (10-7, 6-3) with six points.

Cresset 49, Trinity-Raleigh 48
DURHAM — Maggie Addison posted 20 points as Cresset held off Trinity of Raleigh 49-48 in Carolina Christian Conference girls’ basketball Tuesday.
Melissa Devlin added 15 points for Cresset (12-6, 11-1 Carolina Christian), which led 41-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
Kristi Demski had 23 points and Katie Demski added 17, including five 3-pointers, to lead Trinity of Raleigh.

Franklin 49, NCSSM 28
DURHAM — Nikki Bell posted 18 points and McKenzie Goodwine 16 to lead Franklin Academy past N.C. School of Science and Math 49-28 in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Samantha Michael and Alexandria Anagnos had eight points each for NCSSM.
