Carrboro capped its 15-1 state 2-AA runner-up football season this week by placing 12 of its 26 regular players on the Carolina 12 all-conference first team.
Jason Tudryn, who has coached the Carrboro program since its inception six years ago and lost the state title to South Iredell on a come-from-behind touchdown with 19 seconds to play, was named conference coach of the year.
Sophomore Trai Sharp and senior Scott Peretin, both Associated Press All-State nominees, were named offensive back and offensive lineman of the year, respectively.
Other top C-12 honors went to Northwood’s Jorden Blackmon as linebacker-defensive back of the year and South Granville’s Taz Strudwick for defensive lineman of the year.
In the 3-A ranks, Carolina 6 champion Cardinal Gibbons (11-1) took coach of the year for Steven Wright and offensive player of the year honors after an undefeated regular season.
Third-place Chapel Hill’s Alex Duncan, a defensive back, was the league’s defensive player of the year.
Orange, which won three games in the state 3-A playoffs before losing to state champion Havelock in the semifinals, placed 11 players on the all-conference team.
