Tapp rallies Person past Halifax

Sep. 13, 2013 @ 11:46 PM

Person quarterback Trevon Tapp scored two touchdowns, including one in the final minutes to lift the Rockets to a 21-17 victory at border-rival Halifax County (Va.) Friday in South Boston, Va.

The victory broke a three-game losing streak to start the year and was the first for Person’s first-year head coach David Kleine.

Tapp rushed for 130 yards on 11 carries and led the team on a game-winning drive capped off by a 25-yard touchdown run after scrambling out of the pocket with 3:26 remaining in the game.

The Comets comeback bid on their final drive ended when quarterback Jacob Garrett's pass was intercepted by defensive back A.J. Cash. His brother, LeRon Cash, opened the scoring for the Rockets with a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown a minute into the game.

Person will be back in action next Friday when it hosts Burlington Cummings.
