BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Northern 72, Cedar Ridge 35

DURHAM — Northern continued its sizzling start Friday night as standout Ricky Council II scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Knight past 3-4 Cedar Ridge on the road.

Northern got 11 points from Timothy Bell and nine apiece from Timothy Crutchfield and workhorse post star Kentrell Barkley to improve to 9-1.

Jordan 68, Enloe 61

DURHAM — Another PAC-6 4-A team off to a sizzling start this season is 7-1 Jordan, which used a 22-16 fourth-quarter run to defeat visiting — and winless — Raleigh Enloe.

Mike Spears had a standout all-aroun game with a co-team best three assists and team highs of six rebounds and three steals in addition to scoring five points.

Josh Thompson led the Falcons with 21 points, Arthur Reese scored 12 and Tyreek Frye and Taqwain Bell had 10 apiece.

Orange 55, Cardinal Gibbons 49

HILLSBOROUGH — Keegan Crabtree’s game-high 15 points and nine rebounds led Orange past Cardinal Gibbons in the Big Eight 3-A Conference opener for both teams Friday night.

Orange (5-1) didn’t have another player score in double digits, but Garrett Cloer finished with five points and seven rebounds and J.D. Brooks had seven points and five rebounds.

Trinity/Durham 56, Salem Baptist 46

DURHAM — Daniel Ray scored 19 points and Paul Dunlap added 12 as Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill routed Salem Baptist in the Triad Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

DA 60, Franklin Academy 25

DURHAM — Durham Academy star Alston Thompson dominated with a game-high 16 points as Durham Academy (9-3) routed visiting Franklin Academy (3-5) Friday night.

David Oglesby added 12 for the Cavaliers.

GREENSBORO — Kiara Jacobs scored 17 points and Moné Jones 15 while Atlanta Woodall had eight points and 10 rebounds and Andrea’Anna Poole five points and five assists to lead 7-1 Riverside at 5-3 Page.

Yakima Clifton added nine points for the visiting Pirates.

DA 52, Franklin Academy 20

DURHAM — Cha’Mia Rothwell scored 23 and Liz Roberts added 18 Friday night as Durham Academy (9-2) handed visiting Franklin Academy (7-1) its first loss of the season.

Cedar Ridge 44, Northern 40, OT

HILLSBOROUGH — Kacia Vines scored a game-best 25 points for Cedar Ridge (4-2) to lead all scorers in an overtime win over visiting 4-3 Northern.

Northern made up a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force the overtime period. Sophomore co-captain Rhianna Council led the Knights with 19 points in the loss.

Trinity/Durham 52, Salem Baptist 48

DURHAM — Allie Ruffing led the way in the Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill’s Triad Athletic Conference opener with a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds.

Trinity (3-8, 1-0 TAC) also got 13 points and seven rebounds from Victoria James and eight rebounds from Lina Habib in the close win. The teams were tied at the half but Trinity took a four-point lead after three quarters and held on to it.
