Person can't capitalize in loss to George Washington

Aug. 30, 2013 @ 10:43 PM

Roxboro Person High School forced five turnovers, but only cashed in on one of those opportunities in a 30-12 loss to border-rival Danville (Va.) George Washington Friday night.

The Eagles appeared on the verge of making quick work of Person, racing out a 14-0 lead eight minutes into the game.

The Rockets took advantage of George Washington’s third fumble of the opening half and scored two plays later when quarterback Trevon Tapp connected with Marquis Torain on a 47-yard scoring strike late in the first.

The Eagles answered with an 11-play march that ended with a 4-yard scoring run up the middle by Omar Grimes. George Washington led by at least two scores for the remainder of the game.

Tapp connected on 10-of-21 passes for the Rockets and two touchdowns, both the Torain.

The Rockets will face another highly-touted non-conference foe next Friday when they travel to Greensboro Dudley.
