BIG EIGHT'S BEST

The best girls’ soccer player this past season in the 3-A Big Eight Conference was Morgan Reid, from Raleigh’s Cardinal Gibbons High School, according to the league’s coaches.

But Chapel Hill had the most players on the all-conference squad, which says something about how those Tigers ultimately emerged as the supreme team in North Carolina, winning the state championship on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Waxhaw’s Weddington High School at N.C. State’s Dail Soccer Field.

Chapel Hill senior Alex Kimball was the most valuable player of the 3-A championship, and she landed an all-conference spot in the Big Eight. Kimball is joined by teammates Megan Dell, Laura Sullivan, Frances Reuland, Sofie Nielsen and Mia Spencer. Carly Narotsky was honorably mentioned among the best in the Big Eight.
