Northern cements playoff berth in Jordan rout

Northern punted just once during a 48-0 win at Jordan on Friday. That particular boot was launched when Northern had reserves on offense while the mercy rule was in effect, triggered when Trevon Tapp returned the opening kickoff of the second half 87 yards for a touchdown to give the Knights a 42-0 lead.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association state championships in cross country for boys and girls return to Kernersville for the fifth straight year Saturday, Nov. 1. The races will be run at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.

East Chapel Hill High School athletic director Ray Hartsfield on Wednesday confirmed Friday’s previously announced football forfeit to Hillside High School and announced that the Tigers would also forfeit their final game on Nov. 7 against Jordan.

East Chapel Hill High School on Tuesday informed Hillside that it will forfeit Friday’s scheduled PAC-6 4-A football game against the Hornets, giving Hillside at least a share of its fifth straight PAC-6 championship.
