Roanoke Rapids High School athletic director Tim Bennett will step into the same role at Chapel Hill, replacing Tod Morgan.

Morgan, who doubled as Chapel Hill’s basketball coach, earlier announced plans to move on to coach basketball at C.B. Aycock High School in Pikeville.

“He’s a motivator,” friend and Northern High athletics director Alan “Boo” Rigsbee said of Bennett, a Northern alumnus.

Bennett coached football for the Knights during the state contending era of then-coach Ken Browning, said Rigsbee, a Northern player during that era.

Chapel Hill is getting a good communicator in Bennett, Rigsbee said.

“He’s always in the community doing stuff,” Rigsbee said.

Bennett is expected to start work at Chapel Hill in late October, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools spokesman Jeff Nash said.

Morgan is still on the job as AD at Chapel Hill, reportedly through Sept. 30.
