Jordan tops Heritage in 4-A 2nd Round

DURHAM — Kaushik Puranam and Huntley Munn scored in the second half as No. 5 seed Jordan put away visiting No. 12 seed Wake Forest Heritage 2-0 to advance to the third round of the state 4-A playoffs.

Spencer Bruce and Christian Aguilera assists on the two Jordan goals and William Morgenlander had four saves in posting the shutout.

Jordan (16-2-3) will travel to face No. 4 seed Wilmington New Hanover (19-2-2) either Tuesday or Wednesday night.



Chapel Hill routs Northwood in 3-A

CHAPEL HILL — Ben Fisher scored two goals and Luke Ciocca, Alex Walker and Connor Albrecht one each as No. 1 seed Chapel Hill crushed No. 16 Northwood 5-0 to advance to the third round of the state 3-A playoffs.

John Walden assisted on two of the goals and Albrecht on a third.

Justus Heizer had two saves and Hugh Kelley one in a combined shutout.

Chapel Hill, 23-1-1, will host No. 8 seed Boiling Spring Lake South Brunswick (7-10-3) either Tuesday or Wednesday night in a third round matchup.



NCSSM tops Croatan, Carrboro nips Graham

DURHAM & CARRBORO — No. 5 seed N.C. School of Science & Mathematics and No. 7 seed Carrboro each advanced to the third round of the state 2-A playoffs with home wins Saturday night.

In Carrboro, the Jaguars eked out a 1-0 win over Mid-State rival and No. 10 seed Graham (13-3-2) and advance to a third round playoff game Tuesday or Wednesday at No. 2 seed Washington (18-1-2).

In Durham, Jake Magill, Cameron Pharr, Ben Carlin and Jarod Glover scored to help NCSSM past No. 12 seed Newport Croatan (15-6) 4-2 in the state’s standard non-sudden death, two-overtime tiebreaker.

Science & Math (16-3-2) will also take to the road Tuesday or Wednesday and will meet Beulaville East Duplin (18-3-1), the No. 4 seed in the 2-A East Regional.



Granville Central to host 3rd round 1-A tilt with Woods Charter

STEM — No. 1 seed Granville Central slipped past No. 8 Hobbton 1-0 in overtime on a goal by Noe Geronimo Saturday night and will host a 1-A third-round playoff game either Tuesday or Wednesday.

The Panthers will host No. 5 Woods Charter (13-3) a 5-1 winner at No. 4 Whiteville (12-10-1) Saturday night.
