Hillside tackle McGirt commits

DURHAM — Rising senior offensive tackle Emanuel McGirt of Hillside High School, perhaps the area’s top collegiate football prospect, committed to the University of North Carolina on Tuesday.

McGirt, 6-foot-6, 275-pounds, will be a freshman at UNC for the 2015 season. He was known to have received at least 15 Football Bowl Subdivision scholarship offers including from SEC powers LSU, Georgia and Florida, locally N.C. State, Duke, East Carolina and Wake Forest, as well as Miami, Tennessee, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

McGirt is the fourth offensive line prospect to verbally commit to UNC — and eleventh pledge overall for the Tar Heels. Ten of those prospects are ranked as 3-star prospects, quarterback Anthony Ratliff of Matthews Butler High School a 4-star prospect. McGirt is listed as a 4-star prospect by one service, 247sports.com, but is generally ranked as a 3-star prospect on a 0 to 5 scale.

At UNC, McGirt will rejoin former Hillside teammate, Tar Heel running back Khris Francis who’ll be entering his junior season in 2015.

Duke football lands 2, list at 11

DURHAM — Duke received commitments from a pair of 3-star rising senior football players Tuesday, bringing the Blue Devils’ total number of committed players for the 2015 season to 11.

McSwain is ranked No. 80 nationally among prospects at his position by Scout.com. Rahming is reported to run a 4.39-second 40-yard dash.

All 11 Duke commitments to date are rated as at least 3-star prospects by most major prep recruiting services.
