VOLLEYBALL

Riverside 3, Jordan 0


DURHAM — Riverside got 15 points from Moné Jones and 12 from Zaria Thomas as the Pirates downed defending PAC-6 4-A champion Jordan 25-10, 25-15, 25-11.

Casey Speer had 26 assists and Victoria Pearce 13 digs for the Pirates (13-1, 3-0 PAC-6), who lost the PAC-6 title to Jordan by one game last season after holding the top spot for two years.

Rose Gunn had 17 assists and Kristen Clay 15 digs for the Falcons (5-11, 1-2 PAC-6).

The Pirates became the only PAC-6 team without a loss when Roxboro Person (7-2, 3-1 PAC-6) lost in straight sets to East Chapel Hill (6-8, 4-1 PAC-6) on Thursday night.

Person won the PAC-6 title four years ago, before Riverside began its recent two-year run on top.


Cardinal Gibbons 3, Chapel Hill 0
CHAPEL HILL — Undefeated Cardinal Gibbons, which won the now-defunct Carolina 6 3-A Conference title over Chapel Hill in a one-day, winner-take-all tiebreaker playoff a year ago, coasted past the Tigers 25-23, 25-15, 25-21 in a Big Eight 3-A Conference showdown Thursday night.

Perry Ramsey led the Tigers (10-5, 5-1 Big Eight) with seven kills and four aces in the loss. Gibbons improved to 12-0, 7-0.

Cedar Ridge 3, Orange 1
HILLSBOROUGH — Cedar Ridge dispatched crosstown rival Orange 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-9 in a Big Eight 3-A Conference match Thursday to improve to 13-4, 6-1 Big Eight.

Orange dropped to 7-5, 4-3.

NCSSM 3, Warren County 0

DURHAM — N.C. Science & Math improved to 4-11 overall and 4-4 in Northern Carolina 2-A Conference play with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-20 over NCC foe Warren County Thursday.

High Point Christian 3, Durham Academy 1

DURHAM — Dana Williams (19 kills, 19 blocks) scored a remarkable 38 of Durham Academy’s 97 points but it wasn’t enough as the Cavaliers fell 27-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22.

GIRLS’ TENNIS
Jordan 9, Hillside 0

DURHAM — Andrianna Graves, Genevieve Whitcomb, Marianne Moorman, Lindsey Teseny, Taylor Phillips and Jessica Suarez swept their singles matches as Jordan shut out Hillside in a PAC-6 4-A match Thursday.

Only Moorman lost a game, winning 6-0, 6-1. All the other singles matches were 6-0, 6-0.


Durham Academy 7, Carolina Friends School 2

DURHAM — Durham Academy improved to 7-1 by winning five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches.

DA double winners — singles and doubles — were Angelika Zelko and Lindsey Molina.

Ellie McDonald of Carolina Friends School won at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles to get CFS its only points.

BOYS’ SOCCER
Northern 3, Middle Creek 0

DURHAM — Luis Rodriguez scored all three goals as Northern (3-4-1) pasted the Apex visitors (5-4-1).

Jack Ryan had two assists and Bryan Ceveda one to back the shutout goalkeeping of Dillon Leovic (two saves).
