DURHAM — Sydney Holland scored 25 points on 15 kills, eight aces and a pair of blocks to lead the Vikings past the Hawks 25-5, 25-15, 25-8 in the North Central 1-A Athletic Conference opener for both schools.

 

Cedar Ridge 3, N. Vance 0

HILLSBOROUGH — Cedar Ridge (5-2, 1-0) played its first Big Eight 3-A Conference match since moving up from the 2-A ranks and came away with a 25-11, 25-11, 25-8 win over longtime 3-A member Northern Vance.

 

Cardinal Gibbons 3, Orange 0

HILLSBOROUGH — Cardinal Gibbons downed Orange 25-13, 25-17, 25-18 in the Big Eight 3-A Conference lidlifter for both teams despite 13 kills by Orange star Ashley Muench.

 

Ravenscroft 3, Jordan 0

DURHAM — Ravenscroft (6-1) handed Jordan its eighth loss in nine outings 25-10, 25-17, 25-23 despite six kills apiece from Margaret Gunn and Laura Owen.

 

Riverside 3, Granville Central 0

DURHAM — Zaria Thomas had 14 kills, Yakima Clifton scored 10 points and Moné Jones nine as Riverside improved to 6-1 with a 25-15, 25-13, 25-15 over Granville Central.

 

NCSSM 3, Roanoke Rapids 0

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Claire Namboodri had 37 digs and Sam Zarnick 23 assists to lead the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics past Northern Carolina 2-A Conference foe Roanoke Rapids 25-7, 25-9, 25-18.
 

Chapel Hill 3, Northwood 0

CHAPEL HILL — Chapel Hill improved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the Big Eight 3-A Conference with a 25-15, 25-13, 25-11 win over Northwood.



 

GIRLS’ TENNIS

CFS 8, Trinity/Durham 1

DURHAM — Carolina Friends School got a pair of wins each from Ellie McDonald, Noor Singh, Erin Hazlett-Norman, Ainsley St. Clair and Aliza Bridge and defeated the Triangle School of Durham and Chapel Hill in a Triad Athletic Conference showdown.

 

Williams 5, Chapel Hill 4

BURLINGTON — Homestanding Williams won four of six singles matches at the Burlington Tennis Center, and closed out its victory over visiting Chapel Hill with a win at No. 1 doubles Thursday night.

 

Green Hope 7, ECH 2

CARY — Green Hope (4-1) swept all six singles matches to easily down non-conference foe East Chapel Hill (6-3) Thursday.

 

BOYS’ SOCCER

Jordan 3, Wakefield 0

DURHAM — Keeper Billy Morgenlander pitched an eight-save shutout Thursday and Jake Dressman scored a pair of second-half goals to break up a scoreless game as Jordan stopped Wakefield.

Christian Aguilera scored the Falcons’ third goal and Danny Potts picked up a pair of assists for Jordan (4-1).
