Another strong finish for Council

Lucas Middle School’s Ricky Council III for the second season in a row was undefeated on the local cross country trails.
Council recently secured his second Durham Athletic Conference title at Forest Hills Park, running  2.1 miles in 11:49.12
“He’s a natural athlete,” Lucas cross country coach Dana Thomas said. “He’s so much faster than his competition that he looks like he’s just having fun out there.”
Here’s how fast Council is: During the championship race, he was sticking close to another runner because he wasn’t familiar with the course, Thomas said. But once Council figured out the lay of the land, he turned on the jets, left the guy behind and finished strong, she said.
Council, an eighth-grader, also won the DAC title when he was in seventh grade, Lucas athletics director Tim Ross said.
Thomas said Council doesn’t plan to run in high school, but the coach said he really ought to reconsider. The young man comes from a family of fine athletes, Thomas said.
Council’s brother and sister, Ricky II and Rhianna, respectively, are impact players for the varsity basketball teams at Northern High School.
