HILLSIDE ROLLS

Here is the kind of night it was during Hillside’s 53-0 homecoming win over Jordan on Friday: in the third quarter, Hillside went for it on fourth-and-20 — and got the first down.

The Hornets were up 43-0 at halftime.

“In these type games, I don’t like them, but I like them, because now you can make sure you keep your focus all the way through. I think we did,” Hillside coach Antonio King said. “We can see some of our flaws.”

Hillside running back Donté Thomas-Williams delivered three touchdowns, and Hornets quarterback Nas Forte-Ferguson threw touchdown passes to Miles Kelly and Trevion Thompson before running for one himself.

“We just made a lot of mistakes and helped them out,” Jordan coach LaDwaun Harrison said. “You can’t help a good team out, and we did that some. Just fundamentally, we couldn’t block them — couldn’t block them. That was the game. If you can’t block them, they’re in the backfield all night.”

Hillside’s defensive backs were in the secondary picking off three of Jordan Simmons’ passes.

Harrison began the season counting on Matt Gampe to be under center, but the senior quarterback is rehabbing from a shoulder injury.

Jordan’s Arthur Reese spent some time at quarterback against Hillside, but the Hornets didn’t allow him to get anything going.

“We didn’t quit,” Harrison said. “We fought to the end. They’re a really good team, and it showed tonight.”

Harrison played his high school ball at Hillside.
