Hillside handles business with Person

The Hillside boys’ basketball team took control midway through the second quarter against Person and won 90-66 on Monday.

The victory, coupled with Northern’s victory over Riverside on Monday, pushed the Hornets into third place in the PAC-6 on the final night of the regular season.

The Hornets will face No. 6 East Chapel Hill  at 7 p.m. today in the opening round of the PAC-6 Tournament at Person High School.

Hillside buried six 3-pointers in the second half, including a pair by Robert Robinson Jr. The Hornets forward finished with a game-high 31 points.

Hillside point guard Justice Kithcart added 19 points and teammate Malik Evans scored 13.

Marquis Torain scored 21 for Person, including 15 in the second half. Antwon Smith added 14 points for the Rockets.

Person will face Riverside at 8:30 p.m. today in the PAC-6 Tournament.

Lady Hornets explode Rockets

ROXBORO — The Hillside girls’ basketball team capped its regular-season championship with a resounding 70-17 victory over Person on Monday.

The Hornets are outright champs of the regular season and get an opening-round bye in this week’s PAC-6 Tournament.

Hillside will face the winner of today’s East Chapel Hill-Northern quarterfinal contest in Roxboro.

The Hornets put away Person early, outscoring the Rockets 10-0 in the opening quarter and pushing their advantage to 27-4 by halftime. Person got on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter on a pair of free throws by Tiana Hatchett.

Justine Lyons paced a balanced Hillside scoring attack with 12 points while Zuri White added 11 points.

Christina Harris led Person with 10 points, all in the second half.

Person faces third-seed Riverside in the PAC-6 Tournament at 4 p.m. today
