Tar Heels Dunn, Ohai go No. 1-2 in women's pro soccer draft
Fourteen ACC players — six from UNC and Duke combined — were among the 36 chosen in Friday’s 2014 National Women’s Soccer League College Draft in Philadelphia.
The list includes three players each from North Carolina and Duke, including the Nos. 1 and 2 picks overall — UNC midfielder Crystal Dunn and UNC forward Kealia Ohai, respectively.
Dunn was selected with the overall No. 1 pick by the Washington Spirit, while Ohai went second overall to the Houston Dash. Dunn is a four-time NSCAA All-American, 2013 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and the 2012 MAC Hermann Trophy winner. A four-time All-ACC selection, Ohai was the Offensive MVP of the 2012 NCAA College Cup and in 2013, won the prestigious Senior CLASS Award.
In the second round, Duke defender Natasha Anasi was selected by Boston with the 13th overall pick and North Carolina defender Megan Brigman was the 17th overall pick by Seattle.
Third round pickes included Duke defender Mollie Pathman of Durham Academy with the 23rd pick to Boston. At No. 34 overall, Duke’s Kim DeCesare went to Boston as well.
