Lang named to U.S. Solheim Cup team
For the third time in her career, former Duke All-American Brittany Lang was named one of 12 members of the U.S. Solheim Cup Team on Sunday after the Women’s British Open at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland.
The 13th edition of The Solheim Cup will be played Aug. 16-18 at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colo. The U.S. Team, led by captain Meg Mallon, seeks to keep their undefeated record on home soil intact when the biennial match-play competition.
Lang, a native of McKinney, Texas, was one of eight automatic qualifiers based on the final U.S. Solheim Cup standings, which began at the 2011 CN Canadian Women’s Open. Other automatic qualifiers include Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Angela Stanford, Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson and Jessica Korda.
Lang was the 2004 National Rookie of the Year and a 2004 and 2005 first team All-America at Duke under Coach Dan Brooks, winning six tournaments in two years for the Blue Devils.
Duke sophomore Celine Boutier tied for 56th at the British open after a final round of even-par 72 on Sunday.
Boutier carded rounds of 72, 72, 81 and 72 over the four days to finish with a 9-over 297.
